Passing On Steve Blake
Written by wendell maxey

steveblake

Bringing in Marcus Camby was the right move at the right time for Portland.

Even after only one game, this much we know.

But after watching the Blazers tally a whole 7 assists last night against Boston in an ugly scene at the Rose Garden, you wonder if Kevin Pritchard and company caught what Steve Blake did tonight with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Blake, who started for Baron Davis again, messed around and got a double-double in his second game with the Clips.

He finished with 11 points and 12 assists and helped get the win tonight over the Sacramento Kings, 99-89.

12 assists.

And you're still telling me the Blazers' brass isn't planning to bring Blake back over the summer?

That’s all I’m saying.

Sign him this Summer! if not, Pritchard and the Blazers would be making a huge mistake. I agree, Wendell. They have to be thinking about re-signing him during the offseason. He's too important a player to completely let go of.
back again....and again.

we've seen this song and dance before with blake when john nash shipped him to the bucks. pritchard brought him back as a free agent. is this time any different?

i don't know. haven't really heard anything. just trying to think ahead and what they'll miss in blake.

i know the fanbase was down on the guy. but they had mad love for him in late december and mid-january when he played his best basketball of the season.

then again, maybe a change is just what blake needed.

either way, portland is moving on.

It's too late now, but what if we had traded Camby for Blake, Troutlaw and cash? That would be a pretty slick deal.

i don't know mike....

may not be such a good idea when camby re-signs with portland and both blake and outlaw get the heck out of dodge.

at least you'd be able to use that cash to pay mark madsen who is out of the league, kareem rush and ricky davis who you both waived or towards being $3 million over the salary cap.

but knowing you lost 60% of the games you coached with the clippers since taking over in 2003, i'm sure you'll figure it out.

you're a smart guy.
It all depends

on what they think of Bayless and Mills. If the front office believes they can step in and learn under Miller and produce, then Blake leaving may be an intelligent move longterm.

But, the absence of Blake now is clear. During the time he would usually be in in the fourth Portland struggled. I think Bayless, in time, can be that big shot guy off the bench, but right now they are lacking Blake's consistency off the bench.

I just miss him. And it seems the Blazers are, too.
blake no go

reached out to a person close to blake this morning....

when asked if there is a chance steve returns to the blazers this offseason, the person put it straight.

"nope."
Well

That settles that, then.

but it's a crazy nba world we live in my friend.
Yep

It sure is. I'll believe he's gone when he signs elsewhere. He's sure making himself some money on the market with his current play with Clips. Hopefully Outlaw can do the same and ink a multi-year deal.
