Blazers Courtside

blazers_courtside

Put the word out earlier, but I will be in-studio Monday night on “Blazers Courtside” with Mike Barrett, Mike Rice and Brian Wheeler.

You can catch in on Comcast SportsNet Northwest from 6 to 8 o’clock. I’ll be the one not sporting a Blazers logo.

Tune in. Call in.

Hope we don’t spend the full two hours talking about Hedo but we just might. Know there will be some David Lee commentary, maybe some Andre Miller (doubt it) scuttlebutt, trade rumors aplenty, we’ll go around the Association and no doubt we’ll ramp up towards the Las Vegas Summer League.

At least I think that’s the plan.

Figured I’d open up the discussion here.

If there are topics you want touched upon or further insight on Blazers related or NBA in general, drop me a line in the comment section below. Again, its two hours and the more material to debate the better off we’ll all be.

If not folks, it’s nothing but the “Hedo Show” I’m afraid.

my curiosity is peaked about the real status of Martell....and how much it is
changing the look of whom they might want to acquire post Hedo

also, how much ground did Portland lose with FA in courting Hedo only to be left at the alter...

thanks

thanks for reading and writing debra.....good stuff.

am curious too about your second question and how if they extend and offer to david lee and the knicks match it on july 15, how that might look.

not pretty i know that.

Can David Lee play the 3? If Portland's interest is genuine in signing him, what's are the odds that is is just part of a multi-team deal that Portland will be a part of to get someone else?

I would like to know if they will make a play for Odom? Another thing I would wonder is what teams are vulnerable financially that we could possibly trade for?

The key to this seasons success is the development o Bayless and the return of a healthy and productive Martell Webster. Greg should come to camp ready to play at the level we've been anticipating. He showed promise in the playoffs and all signs are pointing to continued improvement. I'm looking toward the promise of our future, I don't think we need a $50,000,000 addition... At least wait until next year when there will be more possibilities to choose from.

How come nobody is talking about the possibility of prying Marvin Williams from the Hawks?

As Childress showed us last summer, that is a frugal ownership group and in my eyes Williams fits our needs at SF far better than Hedo could have. Great, physical defender (he did a great job on LBJ in the playoffs), can hit the corner three, and is a NW guy so he won't whine about the rain and request a trade to a bigger market.

I'd be interested to hear what all of you have to say. Its been so quiet on the Williams front I am wondering if the Hawks put out a ultimatum that they would match any offer.

I want to know more about more about the backup 4 position and if any Blazer Brass thinks that Cunningham or Pendergraph can fill that void even though there are rookies. Of course, we can gauge them at summer league to an extent (See: Batum). I would love to see one of those guys crack the rotation..

I'd like to find out the process if the Blazers have a targeted a non-free agent player, let's say Gerald Wallace for example. What is the process for that? Are there advantages in having cap room in obtaining someone like Wallace?
...

I would also love to see if we could get Gerald Wallace or even Ramon Sessions. The Blazers have a lot of valuable trade pieces and available cap space. Who knows how many years till they will be able to say that again.

hey dan....can remember lee playing spot minutes at small forward when i covered the knicks back in new york, but last year those minutes were replaced by him logging heavy playing time at center.

as for your second question, so far a straight up sign/trade with the knicks for lee is one option, and there was talk months ago about the knicks involving jared jeffries and/or eddy curry in a deal for the team that would receive lee in a trade.

can't say for certain that is the now the case. but it was back around the deadline and the weeks leading up to that point.

thanks for reading and writing emily....sounds like porltand isn't interested in lamar from what i heard today.

and i'm not so sure the blazers would target other teams with "vulnerable" salary issues, more than just pinpointing a guy and going after him. the sure have the money to work with.

you kjnow sean, there are many out there who would agree with you on.

to maturation of bayless and a healthy webster will do wonders for portland. but i think there is a train of thought within the organization to make something happen now via free agency and move along in adding kepy pieces to portland's winning puzzle.

as i wrote a few times recently, having money to spend isn't always a good thing. and right now we are seeing the pressure to make something happen on the open market.

sure we'll touch on this tonight more. so make sure to tune in if you can.

peace.

here's the thing patrick - and i imagine we'll dig deeper into this tonight on the show - but there really isn't any "prying" williams away from atlanta.

at this point, it sounds like they're willing to let him go free and i keep hearing caron butlers name tossed about as a guy the hawks are targeting.

i doubt mike bibby will be back, but his talks with the philadelphia 76ers stalled recently. so i believe that bibby's and butler's future plans have a lot to do with williams' situation.

tell you what though, marvin williams has really turned into a nice player after such a slow start and his best years are still in front of him. big body and can score; doesn't mind coming off the bench.

could see how that might be appealing to someone like portland.

what's up will....where you been at kid.

i know nate loved what pendergraph showed in pre-draft workouts and if he wants to earn time behind aldridge it will be there, especially if portland doesn't address that need this summer. sounds like they want to nail down a small forward before turning to focus on a power forward and/or point guard.

pendergraph is going to have to come hard in summer league, because if there is anything we know about playing in las vegas in july, is that it's a guard's league.

hey, i'm curious myself dimetime....free agency signings become offical on wednesday and i think as we move into and past summer league, that player movement trade wise will become more common.

just not sure if they want to address trade concerns right now....or if they see wallace as someone they'd be interested in.

we shall see....good question and thanks for the line.
...
written by wmaxey, July 06, 2009
thannks dover....wallace's name has been tossed around of late - and even way back at the nba trade deadline if i'm not mistaken.

as for sessions, the bucks extended him a qualifying over so i think he'll stay put there. besides, what do you all see in sessions that you don't think bayless can become?

just curious. dig sessions game myself.

I have been incognito for a while, laying under he radar lol..
So you think Pendergraph has a better shot to make it than Cunningham? Not disagreeing with you just wondering? Pendergraph seems like a bigger stronger guy (I could be wrong) and i always loved watching him at ASU.

Well, I am a huge Bayless fan, but you have to admit that Sessions is a much better developed passer and pick-and-roll player. He also has much more experience already. Sessions also seems to have a lot of upside still, especially if we are going to stipulate that Bayless has a ton of upside.

Personally, I'd much rather have a Sessions/Bayless rotation than Blake/Bayless. Either Sessions or Bayless will probably turn out to be the great, dynamic, young PG we are searching for to complete the core. If they both turn out great, then we are sitting pretty with wonderful depth, especially since Bayless can play the 2 in a small lineup.

Makes much more sense than trading for Lee, I'd say.

Marvin Williams is indeed just getting started. I'd love to land him!

Meanwhile, any thoughts on trying to get Powe, Big Baby, and perhaps even work a blockbuster including Rondo? Or is Ainge unable to work with Portland because he traded us B Roy for nuttin? You'd think that 17th title might have healed that wound...
