Sometimes I really wonder if NBA players think they are untouchable. Case in point: Houston’s Von Wafer. Just when you think this kid is the feel good story of the year in the NBA, he decides to get into it with head coach Rick Adelman on the bench during Game 2 between Houston and Los Angeles.

Adelman 1, Wafer 0.

Rick sent him packing during the fourth quarter from the bench after getting an earful from the faux-hawk wearing shooting guard. Wafer sulked all the way back to the locker room. Up to that point he’d played roughly 9 minutes, scoring 7 points - far from the 16 minutes he's been averaging in the playoffs. Apparently he felt that wasn’t enough time.

If he thought his time was limited in Game 2, I wonder what he thinks it will be for the rest of the postseason.

I applaud Adelman. I don’t get Wafer. Poor judgment. Very poor timing. Easily un-professional for someone branded a professional.

This is the same kid who has played on six teams in four years – Portland being one of them – and works so diligently on his game during pregame workouts it is ridiculous. More like meticulous. During the first round of the playoffs in Portland, it was common to see Wafer sitting courtside prior to Game 1, Game 2 and Game 5 with a Rockets assistant coach who sported a laptop.

They’d go over game film. They’d go over defensive schemes. They’d go over Wafer’s shot selection from the previous game.

It was as like Von was cramming for a final exam.

On Wednesday night in the fourth quarter of Game 2,  he not only got tossed out of class but he absolutely failed the course.

"That is a team situation," Adelman said after the game. "I'd just as soon not comment on that on that now."

I don't care what was said. Here's what I want to know: what was Wafer thinking?

Oh, that’s right - he wasn’t.
